The Great Escape
In 1755, Giacomo Casanova was sentenced
to five years in Venice’s famously foreboding prison, “the Leads,” for
repeatedly committing adultery.
A determined escape artist in both marriage and jail,Casanova began plotting his exit not long after he arrived at the Leads, which was named for the lead that coated its walls and roof. With the aid of  an iron rod and a monk in the next cell, Casanova managed to dig a tunnel that would eventually lead him to freedom. Now his name is synonymous with those who wish to escape the confinement of romantic commitment.

Most people I know really hate to be contained, and stress has a way of pushing the walls in around us. When trouble puts the squeeze on our hearts, we’re conditioned to do whatever it takes to escape. Pressure, however, is not inherently bad and it actually has a job to do in our lives. Whether it builds or breaks us depends almost entirely on where we choose to run for refuge.

There’s only one good place to go when the pressure’s on. The great escape may be a great mistake!
